Leading aluminium systems supplier, Alunet Systems, has announced its strategic partnership with award-winning doors and windows specialists, Malplas uPVC. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Malplas and Alunet’s growth strategy, as Malplas uPVC becomes a key partner in Northern Ireland.

The partnership, which began in January 2024, came about when Ryan Mallon, the Operations Manager for Malplas uPVC, discovered Alunet Systems on LinkedIn. Impressed by Alunet’s comprehensive service offering, Ryan recognised the potential for collaboration, particularly in expanding Malplas uPVC’s product line to include aluminium systems. This led to a mutual agreement to join forces, with Malplas uPVC now proudly supplying Alunet’s premium products, including the Aluna slider, the new Aluna super slim bifold, and the Aluna window and entrance door.

It goes without saying that sourcing the right products is a crucial step for business success. Malplas is a family-owned business based in Moy, Co. Tyrone. The business was started by Gerry Mallon and is now run by his two son’s Ryan & Philip Mallon. They pride themselves on the quality of the service and products they offer.

In 2016, Malplas saw an opportunity in the market to supply trade customers with premium window and door systems. These sustainable and energy-efficient windows and doors came at a higher price point. Almost instantly, their customers were convinced that these were the products of the future and, without hesitation, changed their supply lines to the Kömmerling products.

As they began to grow and develop, Malplas realised that their excellent service offering, along with world-class Kömmerling window and door products, has led to increased revenue generation via increased order intake. In January 2023, Malplas completed the extension of their premises, which has doubled in size to hold the increased demand for Kömmerling stock.

Malplas supply the full range of Kömmerling products, such as the Premiline Sliding Door and C70 Flush Casement windows. They are also in the process of setting up to offer the new and exciting Kömmerling C76 window and door systems. Their continuous growth plans include the expansion of their product offering to add aluminium fabrication to their portfolio.

Today, the Malplas business is thriving. Their turnover has grown from £500,000 in 2017 to an impressive £3.2 million in 2022, an increase of 540%. They are now in a position to offer a wide range of options to their trade customers, giving them a competitive edge ahead of others in the marketplace. The future looks bright for Malplas as their growth plans include developing more into the commercial side of the business. Plans have already begun to open their own dedicated on-site showroom and much more.

Northern Irish Kömmerling fabricator Malplas UPVC has successfully risen to the challenge of unprecedented demand for its PVC-U windows and doors during 2020. With the support of specialist fastener supplier Rapierstar, it has increased production to its highest ever levels.

Based near Dungannon, and celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Malplas UPVC has seen record demand for products since late spring 2020, when the severe initial pandemic restrictions were relaxed. It is now typically manufacturing between 300 and 400 units every week, up from its usual output by as much as 60%, a level it is has comfortably stepped up to without compromising lead times thanks to the support of its main supply chain partners, including Rapierstar.

Malplas UPVC manufactures windows and doors using the Kömmerling C70 Gold profile system, supplied to a diverse client base including trade installers, housebuilders and social housing landlords. It has become renowned in Northern Ireland for its commitment to quality and the reliability of its service, which is one of the reasons all its products are assembled using Rapierstar’s StarPVCU fasteners.

Malplas UPVC’s Philip Mallon said: “Despite being closed for two months in 2020, the year actually ended up being a record year in terms of sales and volumes. Our whole team has worked extremely hard to keep customer orders on track in what have been some pretty challenging circumstances.

“Like many fabricators, in addition to having to adapt our working environment to ensure our team can continue working safely as the pandemic prevails, we’ve also had to ensure we mitigate the effects of the raw material shortages that we are seeing industry-wide plus the Northern Irish Brexit arrangements. Thankfully, fasteners haven’t been an issue due to our long-term partnership with Rapierstar, and we are confident that will continue to be the case regardless of whatever happens post-Brexit.
